  • The parish church, dedicated to Saint James, and the cloister are part of this artistic complex.

Known as the Conventual de los Caballeros de la Orden de Santiago or the Casa de la Calera, this impressive architectural monument stands in the main square in Calera de León. It consists of the parish church and the cloister with its outbuildings.

It was started building in 1528 on a land donated for such purpose by the town council of La Calera. The new building became what we know today - a larger residence for the friars of Tentudía.

The main access is from the square, through a hall with a ribbed vault. Once inside, you will find a two-storey cloister built of dressed granite, with rounded arches on the sides.

The interior holds the parish church, dedicated to Saint James the Apostle, stands over the ruins of the old palace. It has a single nave, four niche chapels, the sacristy and the baptismal chapel.

The complex makes up a monumental architectural work combining Gothic and Renaissance styles.
