A food and drink festival around the very best dry-cured ham "Pata Negra" celebrated every September in Monesterio.
Ham Day, declared to be a Festivity of Tourist Interest in Extremadura, is a food and drink event that attracts thousands of people to Monesterio every year, where you will find numerous stalls and pitches to sample and buy "pata negra" hams and related Iberian products, such as Iberian shoulders of ham and pork loins.
In addition to the produce tasting, which is the event's main activity, other game and festive activities are also held, such as sports tournaments, courses and competitions. The most popular of these is the national ham carver championship.
What better way to end such a succulent day than paying a visit to the Ham Museum, where the way ham is made in Monesterio is explained in great detail, along with the conditions under which the pigs live in the local pastureland and the history of this delicious delicacy.
