  • Irrigated farmland, dehesa pastures and olive groves shape the landscape of Montehermoso, a delightful municipality dating back to the 13th century and located in the district of Vegas del Alagón, in the province of Cáceres.

As the area was completely isolated right up until the early 20th century, Montehermoso has remained virtually untarnished by outside influences, turning it into a showcase for Extremadura's age-old charm and traditions. This is reflected in the famous local crafts, the ornate, colourful hats traditionally worn by Montehermoso women and the locally made church bells known as Campanas de Rivera, along with the many fascinating fiestas such as the Feast of San Blas (Saint Blaise), the Romería (Pilgrimage), the June Fairs, Los Bartolos and Los Negritos de San Blas, which has been declared an Extremadura Fiesta of Tourist Interest.

Montehermoso's rich heritage is also portrayed through its many monuments and places of interest, such the bullring, the various shrines and chapels, the Ethnographic Archaeological Park and El Ronco spring. The area's most notable heritage, however, is formed by its two reservoirs, its lakes known as Tremedal, Jerrao and Nueva, its natural swimming pool and its many wells, springs and fountains, such as Los Burros and El Corte.
