It took three centuries to build the "Catedralina" (Little Cathedral) of the locality of Brozas
Known as Santa María la Mayor de la Asunción, this is the main church in the town of Brozas and was built at the request of the Catholic Monarchs in 1495. However, it took three centuries to build, from the end of the 15th to the beginning of the 18th century.
The exterior is mainly in the Baroque style. The prominent feature of the façade is the base, with traces of Gothic decoration and a great rounded door, completed with an elaborate sculptural decoration.
The most important feature of the interior is the ribbed vault, as well as a number of elements such as the main altarpiece from the 18th century, a clear example of Baroque art. An organ from the same period still stands right next to the choir. It has four chapels, all built at different times. The most prominent sculpture is the Cristo de la Salud, a 16th century image from the Andalusian school. -
