A building with the dimensions of a citadel, it was built in 1190 by order of Alfonso IX in a privileged location from which it controls Salvatierra de los Barros.
This castle was built in 1190 by order of Alfonso IX. It was later in the hands of the crown of León, since it was donated to the Marquess of Villena. It later changed ownership several times, and on many occasions was a matter of dispute.
Its style is reminiscent of military buildings of the 12th and 13th centuries, although it would seem that it was probably raised over the ruins of a Moslem construction.
The castle has the dimensions of a citadel and comprises a series of turrets and towers proper to a fortress. From east to west there are a number of stepped enclosures rising upwards, made of stone masonry.
As it is private property only the outside can be visited. -
