It is regarded as one of the most valuable protected areas due to its diversity and provides a large number of surface habitats that are far less extensive in other areas.
This protected area lies in the heart of the Sierra de Las Villuercas mountains, an extension of Los Montes de Toledo, north of the town of Guadalupe.
The area boasts sixteen different types of habitat, much of which is far less extensive in other areas, such as Galician-Portuguese oak forests, chestnut forests, bushes and junipers. The area is home to various bat species, stag beetles, water lizards, otters and the rare Iberian lynx. The most common type of fish is the Iberian nase, which shares its habitat with European pond turtles and Mediterranean pond terrapins.
