Sierra De San Pedro Special Protection Area (SPA) for Birds and Site of Scientific Interest (SSI)

The rare Iberian lynx is one of the animals that best symbolises the area, which is nestled between the Guadiana and Tagus rivers and extends through the Sierra de San Pedro mountains. The low-to-mid altitude mountains cover an extensive area running from the Sierra de Enmedio, close to Cordobilla de Lácara, through to the Portuguese border, more specifically the Sierras de Santiago, near the town of Santiago de Alcántara. <br /><br />On the dehesa pastureland and amid forests of cork oaks, the Iberian lynx shares its habitat with stag beetles, great capricorn beetles and many kinds of fish, most notably those of the carp family.
