Casatejada lies in the district of Campo Arañuelo in the province of Cáceres, along the EX-A1 motorway, which joins Plasencia to Navamoral de la Mata.
The town of Casatejada was strategically founded at a crossing of the highroad that joined the towns of Plasencia and Talavera de la Reina at the time of Alfonso VIII.
Any visit to Casatejada must take in the following monuments: the parish church of San Pedro ad Víncula, declared to be a monument of cultural interest, the chapel in dedicated to Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, a 15th century building and the chapel of Angustias.
Also worth a visit is the palace of Las Cabezas, built in 1876 by the first Marquis of Comillas which, surrounded by holm oaks and cork trees, which standing as it does on a small hill looks out onto the whole district.
One of the big attractions of the town is the festivity held in honour of the Virgen de la Soledad, which sees increasing numbers visit the town every year. There are lost of other popular fiestas held in Casatejada in which you can take part, such as the so-called procession of the "natillas" (custard), the eve of Santa Isabel, the Santiago Fair or the Cultural Week held in August.
There is an added plus for nature lovers as the town is one of the access points to the Monfragüe National Park. -
