If you visit Zarza Montánchez (Caceres), don't forget to visit the La Terrona oak tree. This is possibly the largest Quercus ilex in the world. This is shown by its monumental scale: 16 metres high and 7.80 metres around the trunk. Just being in its presence is overwhelming, as it is over 800 years old: it would have witnessed the knights of the Order of Santiago galloping past during the 13th century Reconquest.

It is to be found on the Camino Real, in the area know as Cordel de la Cumbre. There are also many other attractions here, depending on the time of year, including many animals and birds, such as the booted eagle and the red kite, together with many other dehesa pastureland birds, such as the woodchat shrike, the hoopoe, the azure-winged Magpie, the blue tit and the European serin. And these are not the only attractions of the area, as it is also home to some of the most typical flora of the area, such as the cistus albidus and the narcissus.
